Just after midnight on May 22nd, 2011 Mitch Daniels released a memo to his constituents informing them he will not run for President in 2012. The GOP had hoped the Indiana Governor would get in the race as a serious candidate amongst a widely regarded field of weak candidates. His announcement opens up new possibilities for the current crop of candidates both announced and undecided. Expect to see more formal declarations next week as a result of Daniels’ announcement.
Many Republicans continue to pressure New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush to enter the race. Both have emphatically refused to entertain the idea.
