Last night the New York Senate voted to recognize same sex marriage by 36 to 26. New York becomes the sixth state to recognize such unions along with Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut, Iowa, New Hampshire, and Washington, D.C. I watched it happen live on the Rachel Maddow Show. This seems fitting since Rachel has a life partner of the same sex. The crowd cheers drowned out the gavel of the speaker upon the passing of the bill. New York also recognizes out of state couples so we could see an influx of gay couples getting married in the Empire State. Could California and the rest of the west coast be next?
And one of the last bastions of discrimination crumbles.
