Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords sporting a short haircut and escorted by her friend Debbie Wasserman-Shultz returned to the floor of the house to vote on the debt ceiling. She showed up at the last minute to standing and sustained applause in an emotional appearance. It’s been a full seven months since she was gunned down in Tucson. Her office issued a statement saying,
“After weeks of failed debate in Washington, I was pleased to see a solution to this crisis emerge. I strongly believe that crossing the aisle for the good of the American people is more important than party politics. I had to be here for this vote. I could not take the chance that my absence could crash our economy.”
A lot of salty tears other than John Boehner’s were spilled on the floor of the House of Representatives. Nancy Pelosi called Giffords the “personification of courage”.
One thing was perfectly clear; Gabs is back.
